Don’t fix what isn’t broken
Dear Editor:
The old saying goes “If it’s not broken, don't fix it.” The 4-way stop in Boothbay works just fine. We don't need a rotary or a strip.
I have wracked my brain for years to try and figure out what could be brought to our town so we had business in the winter. But it won't make a difference, because we are a tourist town, period. Everyone who has summer homes leaves.
I lived my first part of my life on Back Narrows, and the last 35 years on the Butler Road. When we first moved there it was a dirt road. No school bus, no mail, no water, last to be plowed, etc.
We still have no water! I have been trying for years to at least get summer water. A few years back they went down Beath Road with water only a quarter of a mile from my house. Why couldn't they go up Butler Road? I have been to the town, the water company, petitions, etc. I know everyone on Butler Road would take the water. Now they want to spend all this money to get water to the Industrial Park. It didn't pass before, and I don't think it will this time.
As far as the existing access for the golf course, I see no problem with it now.
I am closing my business because of the economy, rents being so high with everything else I have to pay. That is why so many places can't stay in business. None of what is trying to be done in our pretty town would help my business, it would only hurt it if I was able to stay where I am. Most local folks like the town we live in just fine, and why change what already works?
I have worked hard all my life, and nothing was given to me. I wasn't born with a silver spoon in my mouth, plus I still have my pride, and dignity, and love where I live. Nothing can change that.
This is my opinion only of how I feel about all this.
