Despite tournament loss, BRHS girls tennis looks bright

With only one loss with their full lineup during the regular season in the first match of the season against Hall-Dale, Boothbay Region High School girls tennis coach Alex Arsenault remains optimistic about the program. The team will return with all but one player, senior Sarah Kreft, who is graduating.

The Seahawks’ season (8-4 overall) ended June 5 with a semifinal tournament loss to Waynflete – without a full squad.

“We had a very successful season,” said Arsenault via email on June 6. “Upsetting MCI (in the quarterfinal round) was a huge team victory. Our doubles showed up strong that day! Laura (Chapman, first singles) had a staple win for her career, remaining undefeated in team play!

“Being one match away from the Class C South Championship was great for our program. We have bigger goals to accomplish next year.  The only match we lost with our full lineup was the first match of the season against Hall-Dale. That’s an example of how hard our girls worked to improve! Every match we got better and better. I look forward to the returning players next year.”
