A Sunny Acres Lane home in Boothbay is a total loss following a March 5 fire. Boothbay firefighters were joined by six other departments in battling the fire which began around midnight at the home of Justin Clark and his fiancée Naomi Mackin. Boothbay Fire Chief Dick Spofford reported the fire marshal investigated the scene Thursday, but no cause has been determined.

The home’s fire alarm sounded which prompted Clark to leave his upstairs bedroom to investigate.

“He went downstairs and immediately saw a lot of smoke coming from the sunroom. He ran upstairs and the couple evacuated the home. From there, we believe the fire extended rapidly into the rest of the house,” Spofford said.

Clark and Mackin exited the burning building safely, but the family’s dog and two cats were trapped in the sunroom, according to Spofford.  Boothbay Harbor, Southport, Edgecomb, Newcastle and Wiscasset fire departments responded to the blaze. Firefighters hosed down the home’s southern side in extinguishing the fire. Spofford reported the firefighters extinguished the blaze by 11 a.m. Thursday. A nearby garage which housed a car and motorcycle was unharmed.
