Clubs bring people together
Groucho Marx famously once said “I refuse to join any club that would have me as a member.” He is not around today to test that theory, but luckily we seem to have no shortage of people who do want to join our clubs!
Regardless of your interest, whether you are a writer looking to create the great American novel, a crafter in search of a quiet space to finish your next quilt, or a Chess player looking to improve your game and play others, we have a varied line-up of Fall/Winter Clubs that offers something for everyone!
Dan Zajdel who has been running the Wednesday night Chess Club for a few years, began playing as a kid.
“Chess club memberships are now soaring.” Says Dan “We have 8-10 players regularly now, of all ages and all abilities. There is a psychological component when you are playing a person across the board that you don’t necessarily get when you are playing on a computer. ”
Elaine Ricci has been meeting with a group of like minded crafters under the banner of “Stitch Craft” every Thursday for the past 6 months. "We have a dedicated group of 6-8 ladies, who have been coming regularly. They each bring their own projects and work on everything from knitting, crochet, quilting to felting - anything goes!” Crafts can be very solitary practices, but they don’t have to be, they can be social too. Elaine clarifies “This is as much about companionship and an opportunity to get together with like minded people, as it is about the craft itself.”
Rachael Kellog, a teacher at Edgecomb Eddy School hosts a Monthly Writer’s Workshop group. “Our overall mission has been to invite and inspire thought in the form of writing.” Rachael says. “Within the group, there is room to be more purposeful and write more in a directed way, but there is also room to just have conversations and offer support.”
So, consider joining one of our clubs, meet some new friends & learn a new skill that may just change your life!
