Dear Editor:

I, with many other concerned members of the Boothbay Region YMCA, would like to publicly state our concern resulting from the elimination of the Wellness Director position.

The elimination of this position appears to have occurred without any announced plan for replacing the duties performed the Wellness Director. Many of these duties are audience appropriate wellness classes and wellness activities oriented toward a senior/geriatric/challenged population, which I believe is a significant potion of the Y membership and for whom wellness is a basic need.

As a person with Parkinson’s disease, I can attest to the present Wellness Director’s invaluable help to members such as myself. I rely on the director’s expertise and mature ability to challenge me in a way that keeps me coming back for more.

I, with the other concerned members, ask the executive director to deliver and announce publicly a concrete and effective plan for the continuation of the wellness program at the Y.
