BRWD continues talking meter style switch
Jan. 28, Boothbay Region Water District trustees continued logistical discussions on the possible switch to a more advanced meter system. The meters, provided by EJ Prescott (EJP), would be able to remotely detect a pipe leak.
According to General Manager Weston Alley, the company is surveying the area to see how many “communication towers” would be required for the system to be operational. However, Alley clarified that any communication hardware would be installed on existing BRWD-owned infrastructure such as standpipes or telephone poles. It is unlikely any towers will be built.
The district is also waiting to schedule a meeting with its current meter provider, Core & Main, to compare. In other business, BRWD is drafting an Emergency Response Plan and a Disaster Action Recovery Plan to outline response strategies in case of an incident. Alley plans to share the finished plans with Five Rivers Regional Water Council to increase coordination with other nearby regions. Boothbay and Wiscasset became charter members of the council in 2010; the council includes the Great Salt Bay, Bath and Brunswick-Topsham water districts.
