BRHS girls tennis team holds awards night
The incredible career of Laura Chapman as Boothbay Region High School’s most prolific tennis player, who never lost a league match (44-0) and was the Mountain Valley Conference girls player of the year four straight years, highlighted the team’s awards night June 11.
The ceremony, held on the BRHS tennis court, included the seven-member team. Members were presented accolades from coach Alex Arsenault, who has been coaching the team for 16 years and has an overall 108-84 record, according to statistics provided by BRHS athletic director Allan Crocker.
Presented with individual awards were Chapman, most valuable player, freshman Izzy Andreasen, most improved player and junior Maddie Andreasen (5-5 in first doubles), coaches award. Given honorable mention by the MVC coaches were Izzy Andreasen (7-4 in third singles) and Hannah Kreft (6-4 in second singles). Senior Ivory Cody (2-2 in second doubles) was named to the MVC academic all-star list. Other players honored were junior Abby Orchard (5-5 in first doubles) and freshman Addie Barter (2-3 in second doubles).
This season, Chapman was a final four finalist in the state singles tournament before losing to the eventual runner-up, Molly Tefft of Brunswick, 6-3, 3-6, 6-4.
The Seahawks finished with a 7-4 record overall, finished in fourth place in Class C South, and lost to Waynflete, 4-1, in the division quarterfinal at home.
