BRHS to compete with ‘Mmmbeth’ in March

How’s this for a prop list: a big knife, a Magic 8-Ball, a chain saw, a bloody leg and a ... big plate of cookies? Intrigued? Of course you are!

Here’s the synopsis for the show these props are used in: "A hilarious mixed-gender take on the Scottish play ... The witches take over the storytelling ... Queen Duncan would rather open a donut franchise than die .... Lady M's a bloodthirsty June Cleaver, and the murderers are preoccupied with creating a commercial for their services.”

Boothbay Region High School’s drama students are immersed in Allison Williams’ “Mmmbeth,” - 45 mirthful minutes long - for the state’s annual Drama Festival coming up March 8 and 9. This version certainly sounds more upbeat than the original!

This is the second time Director Mary Miller has chosen this play. The first time was 15 years ago.

“It is very funny,” Miller said. “Imagine the witches using a 10-inch Magic 8-Ball to see the future.  I also chose it because it has a small cast of 10 that would fit the students that were interested.”

The thespians in this year’s competition are Wyatt Timberlake as Mmmbeth; Maren Whitney as Lady Mmmbeth; Ava Schlosser as Lady Duncan; Alexia Russomano as McDuff; Nataleigh Blackman; Cass Hicks and Vincent Salzwedel as the Witches and Brady Harmon as Banquo. And behind the scenes are Paulette Carter, costumes; Caitlin Shepherd, sets; and crew: Kaitlin Tuttle; Time Norton; Treshna Spence and Jenna Cohen.

BRHS will compete at Thornton Academy.

Yes indeed, something wickedly funny this way comes.
