Boothbay/Wiscasset girls' 4X100M relay team wins Class C championship

Courtesy photo The Boothbay/Wiscasset girls' track and field team produced a Class C State Champion on June 6 in Winslow. Girls' 4X100M relay team members Olivia Rittall, Nerla Laventure, Moriah Smith and Rose Campbell were crowned state champions. The team ran a 52.26 second time and, overall, finished eighth in the state. The boys finished tied for 11th. Twenty-five Boothbay/Wiscasset athletes competed in the state championship meet.
Rittall, who competed in three other events, finished third in the 400M, fourth in the 200M and fifth in the 100M. Ross Gaffney finished second in the 1600M race walk. He posted the second fastest time in school history. Teammates Nathan Percival finished fifth and Jackson Zehm finished sixth. Isaac Fanslau finished third in the 400M dash. The sophomore owns the school record in the event, according to Coach Nick Scott.
The boys’ 4X800m relay team of AJ Crocker, John Cooper, Louie Caidoc and Ethan Clark finished eighth (nine minutes, 15.08 seconds). Ben Gapski finished fifth in the 110M hurdles. Crocker finished eighth in the 3200M.
Zuriel Smith finished fourth in discus and sixth in shot put. Aryana Gray finished fifth and Campbell finished seventh in discus. Logan Bourne finished sixth in shot put.

In the girls’ 100M: Rittall, fifth, 13.3; Moriah Smith,10th,13.56; and Campbell, 13th, 13.72; 200M, Rittall, fourth, 27.41; Moriah Smith, 11th, 28.9; and Campbell, 13th, 28.92; 400M, Rittall, third, 1:01.95; 1600M, Maggie McCarthy, 24th, 6:17.06; 3200M, McCarthy, 12th, 13:40.6.
Triple jump, Moriah Smith, 20th, 30-0; discus, Zuriel Smith, fourth, 94-2; Gray, fifth, 92-4; Campbell, seventh, 90-3; and Abby Orchard, 27th, 68-0; shot put, Zuriel Smith, sixth, 30-6.5; and Gray, 18th, 26-10.75; 4X400M relay team, ninth, 4:45.48; high jump, Avery Rice, 19th, 4-2; and Gabrielle Cassidy, 19th, 4-2.
Orono won the girls’ state championship with 91 points. Boothbay scored 39. Bangor Christian won the boys’ state championship with 59. Boothbay finished with 30 points.
