The State Games for Alpine were held at Lost Valley in Auburn on Thurs. Feb.26. Lots of athletes and friends made the day as everyone hurried to get ready and couldn’t wait to talk at lunchtime.
In level 2 Blake Chadwick returned with a bronze for his slalom. Blake took the fifth for his Super G. He did very well among his competitors, and has worked hard to improve his turning and didn’t miss a gate. He was so pleased.
In level 3, after getting off to a rocky start, Vincent Giles returned home with a fifth in the Super G and a sixth for his slalom. Danny Miller got medals in both the slalom and the Super G. He won a silver for his slalom and a bronze for the Super G. He always was celebrating before the finish as he knew he had done what he came there to do. Donny Dunning who has had an amazing season practicing was disappointed as he had to sit out due to a knee injury.
In level 4 Boothbay was working for the top position and the fastest Alpine Ski Trophy. Zander Blake was in contention but with just a 1.28 second difference to the gold medal in the Super G he lost to a super athlete from Downest Horizons. Zander was disappointed but stood on the podium proud as he received the silver. It was yet another athlete from Downeast Horizons who won the gold in the slalom as Zander took the silver for that. Joey Ranco was the only gold medal winner in level 4 for his slalom with a bronze in the Super G. Joey was happy with all his efforts. Grace Giles, was again victorious as she medaled in the Super G and the slalom both with bronze. Valerie Giles, who has improved her speed this season returned with a fifth in the slalom and a 4th in the Super G. Deshawn Averill, with his first time at level 4, did amazing on control with two bronze medals. Ronda LeConte picked up such speed near the last two gates and brought home the silver for the Super G. She also brought home a bronze for her efforts in the slalom.
Boothbay had three volunteer partners, Coyle, Edy and Esta Lawler.
Always lots of fun when the contest is over celebrating with friends. A huge thank you to all coachers and helpers.
