Boothbay Region Treasures launched as local initiative to global #GivingTuesday
A global campaign promoting generosity is coming to the Boothbay region! We’re no strangers to these ideals, as a community that always steps up to help a neighbor in need or to support a goodwill effort. Our peninsula knows how to give back. That’s why a group of local nonprofits are collaborating — to let the world know that the Boothbay region is one of the most caring places to live.
To follow Thanksgiving, Black Friday, Shop Local Saturday, and Cyber Monday, Giving Tuesday is a day for giving back. December 2, 2014 is this year’s #GivingTuesday and the kick-off to the Season of Giving. Started by New York’s 92nd Street Y, #GivingTuesday celebrates and encourages charitable activities that support nonprofit organizations.
Our local nonprofits have banded together to form “Boothbay Region Treasures,” a name that reflects both how the towns of Boothbay, Boothbay Harbor, Southport, and Edgecomb treasure the services provided by local charities, and how all of the nonprofit employees treasure their donors and volunteers.
A media campaign leading up to #GivingTuesday will highlight each of the local nonprofits and how they work to support the region. We’ll also be spotlighting many local businesses and the causes they support. On December 2, we will be urging our supporters to donate either time or money, with various volunteer projects set to take place on the day as well.
Keep an eye out in the upcoming months for our full listing of regional nonprofit organizations on the Boothbay Register’s website. For the social-media inclined, you’ll be able to follow the action on Facebook and via the hashtag #BoothbayTreasures on Twitter as we approach the fall.
