Boothbay Region Historical Society annual meeting open to all
The public and members of the society are invited to attend the annual meeting of the Boothbay Region Historical Society on Tuesday, May 21, at 4:30 p.m.
This year’s special program will be presented by Liz Evans, the owner-operator of the East Boothbay General Store. The program will follow a brief business meeting to review society activities during the past year and to elect new trustees and officers.
The membership will vote on the following slate submitted by the nominating committee. Accepting renomination to the board for three-year terms are Jan Reit, Laurie Simmons, Ann Sutter and Kathy Tibbetts. Accepting nominations for new board membership are John Leonard (2-year term) and Debbe Cotter (3-year term). Accepting nominations for the offices of president, vice president, secretary and treasurer are Kay Wilder, Kathy Tibbetts, Kay Evans and Sarah Giles, respectively.
Immediately following the business portion of the meeting, guest speaker Elizabeth “Liz” Evans will talk about owning and operating the landmark East Boothbay General Store for the past 11 years. Liz “grew up all over the place” but spent her summers in the Boothbay region. After a number of years as a chef on several different luxury yachts, including Jimmy Buffett’s, she bought the East Boothbay General Store the day before it was to go up for auction in 2008. With Liz’s outgoing personality and culinary skills, the store is a favorite gathering place for summer people and year-rounders alike, proof positive of the message on the entrance sign that says, “In the heart of East Boothbay since 1898.” Members of the audience are invited to stay for refreshments following the program.
The Boothbay Region Historical Society is located at 72 Oak Street in Boothbay Harbor, just across the street from The First National Bank parking lot. It is open to the public all year on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
