Boothbay now 8-1-1 with win over Winthrop
The Boothbay Region Seahawk field hockey team defeated the Winthrop/Maranacook Ramblers, 2-1, in Winthrop on Wednesday afternoon, Oct. 1. According to newspaper records, it was the first win over Winthrop since 2017.
The Seahawks, in the midst of one of the best seasons of the 50-year-old program, improved to 8-1-1 with the victory. The Ramblers dropped to 5-4 with the loss.
Boothbay got goals from senior Tatum French and sophomore Moriah Smith and the Seahawk defense held the perennial Class C top team to a single goal.
The Spruce Mountain Phoenix come to BRHS Friday at 3:30 for a battle of two of the top four teams in Class C South. The Phoenix are 7-2 and in fourth place while Boothbay is currently in third place, as of 10 a.m. Thursday. Lisbon, at 8-1-2 is ranked first, followed by Hall-Dale/Monmouth at 6-2-1.
