Boothbay Harbor Yacht Club
Our last many weeks columns have led off with words about the construction project so why change a good thing? This past week we saw the final wrap of the stick built section with TYPAR and then towards the end of the week the installation of windows all around. It is now clear what things will look like when the work is completed. Next in line is the arrival of the modular sections and this is still on schedule for next week. The only deterrent to setting the “boxes” is normally high winds because the crane has to pick them up and swing into place with only inches to spare.
Other signs of spring will be the week of March 24-25, when the 2018 High School Sailing activities will begin with the launching and rigging of the 420 fleet. This will be the earliest start ever for this colorful and exciting part of our Junior Program activities. All indications are that we will have a large and talented group of youthful sailors ready and willing to face the challenges of racing in frigid waters .
Charles sent out recently a lengthy description and schedule of activities at the annual Winter Reunion in Miami, which is being organized and led by Claire and Don Tomlin. Please feel free to call or email either of them to establish your participation or to ask questions or advice.
Likewise Dale and Ida Lancaster can answer questions about the next winter monthly event to be held at their Atlantic Ave. home on Feb. 15. Lots to talk about and good folks to meet and greet.
We note that several more applications for membership have been filed and if you are a reader of this column you will know that information about joining the cub can be had by calling the club office at 633-5750 and the staff there will refer you ( by giving contact info) to Sandy Wheeler or Sharma Schacknow the co-chairs of the membership committee.
