Boothbay Harbor Yacht Club
I never cease to be amazed at the stamina and tenacity displayed by the crew that is building the Sailing Center stick-built North Wing. This past week we watched as they completed the roof rafters and then moved to the decking. With snow falling and less than happy temperatures, the crew stayed hard at it and by week’s end, the roof was tight, shingled, ridge capped, and ready for Tuesday’s storm.
In addition, the crew also closed in the rest of the structural siding and even covered the door and window cutouts to keep out the snow and in the temporary heat (when active). The entire building has been wrapped with TYPAR, which is the vapor seal between the basic walls and the siding yet to be installed. While, at this point, the visible action will be limited for a time, things will be underway in the basement as rough plumbing and drainage lines will be installed preparatory to pouring the concrete basement floor and then erection of room partitions.
Charles has promised to post some pictures from time to time as these “invisible” developments occur. Meanwhile, to the Northwest in South Paris, the “boxes” (modules) that will become the main section of the project, are now well into finishing stages and within two weeks or so will be loaded on trailers and readied for the journey to West Boothbay Harbor. The penciled in date for delivery is the week of Feb. 5. By the way, the club parking lot will be closed the week of delivery because of the placement of the crane and trailers carrying the “boxes.”
If you haven’t made your plans for the Miami winter reunion, this is the time for action. Don and Claire Tomlin need to know the information from folks attending to make the proper reservations and plans. March 12 to 15 is the date envelope and there is an endless list of activities and events. These include some duck boat tours, a beer and wine party at the Tomlins’ residence, a lunch at Joe’s Stone Crab and cocktails and dinner at the Coral Reef Yacht Club. Give Don or Claire a call or an email if you have any questions or special needs.
Speaking of calls, last week we indicated that folks interested in joining BHYC could call either of the Membership Committee co-chairs, Sandy Wheeler or Sharma Schacknow. If you don’t know them or their numbers, that information is immediately available by calling the club office at 207-633-5750.
