This is the first in a series of articles about the Boothbay Harbor Yacht Club Regatta and Shipyard Cup Classics Challenge.
BHYC has been conducting an annual regatta for 46 years and this year’s event, July 24 and 25, is the 47th running and features an expanded signature event.
The club announced that the event will now include the Shipyard Cup Classics Challenge. The Shipyard Cup Regatta, which previously featured superyachts and was sponsored by Hodgdon Yachts, was a mainstay for both the sailing and local community in Boothbay Harbor for over a decade. The new Shipyard Cup Classics Challenge will carry on that spirit of tradition but will feature classic yachts rather than superyachts.
The regatta will be part of the Classic Yacht Owner’s Association Challenge Series, with includes several prestigious regattas throughout the northeast.
Teaming up with our sponsors from the local maritime industry under the name Shipyard Cup to include vintage boats brings together the club’s great racing tradition with the legendary history of shipbuilding in this area.
