Boothbay Harbor Yacht Club Column: Work Day May 17
On May 8, folks gathered for the first Thursday cocktail party and about 30 members arrived to enjoy friendship and to watch Sally and her High School Club Sailors come in to the docks from their afternoons practice. Head bartender David was right on top of things and was assisted by Executive Chef George and Club Manager Jim. The Commodore welcomed all and the weather was fabulous for a change.
Thursday, May 15’s event is also at 5:30 p.m. and from now on things start to happen with precision and on schedule. Saturday is Work Day and members are encouraged to arrive at 8 a.m. for a “many hands make light work” list of projects.
That means that the annual opening potluck supper will be Saturday night and Sandy Gillespie will be coordinating the event. Please call her at 207-633-0084 to sign up for attending and to get your potluck offering listed. If you prefer, you can email Sandy at sandbug@gwi.net.
The event is chaired by Alice and Andy Mutch who report that Chef George will bake a ham and be present to carve and serve it. The Mutches also remind you that even if you can’t make the work day you can still attend the supper. By the way, Saturday is the Preakness and Jim has suggested that like the Derby, it will most likely be on the big screen in the bar.
Flower planting day is Friday, May 23, so all you green thumbs plan to be aboard to assist. Saturday, May 24 is the June board meeting and the first regular meal of the season is lunch on May 27. (Dinner service starts on May 29.) The Commissioning Ceremony is at 5:30 p.m. on June 1.
