Boothbay Harbor Rotary column

There were many guests attending, mostly wooden ship aficionados, to hear the presentation on the complete rebuild of the Ernestina-Morrissey. Among those were Angela Slump, a Rotarian from Puerto Rico, Nat Wilson and his wife, Tony and Jan van Hasselt, and Ron and Bonnie Ginger.
Ross Branch, a 25-year resident of Boothbay Harbor, has been working with Bristol Marine (formerly Boothbay Harbor Shipyard) for the last four years. His presentation was on the complete rebuild of the Ernestina-Morrissey in progress.. He brought a slide show of photos taken by Robert Mitchell. As is often the case, the review of the condition of the ship called for much more than the repairs that were the scope of the original project. Using timber from the Netherlands and other sources around the world, they have all but built the ship from the keel up. Years of work already completed, there are years of work ahead. When finished, she will be as good, and in some ways much better, than she was when originally built and launched.
