Boothbay Harbor Rotary Club
Sometimes things just don't go according to plan. They work out way much better. Last Thursday was a perfect example of that. Somehow a person on the Program Committee, not saying any names here, got a few emails confused. What was scheduled as a social night, no program or speaker totally changed for the better when our Representative Holly Stover walked in ready to tell us about Legislative changes this session and how they might impact us. Aside from the embarrassment of having messed up and not seen her acceptance, we were all so delighted she was there. No surprise, she gave a fun, informative talk about this last legislative session. We were amazed to hear that around 600 bills were proposed. We were glad to hear that monies were approved to reimburse our hospitals, nursing homes, public dental clinics and other health care organizations who have been waiting many months for payment for their Medicaid clients. Often having to borrow money to keep their doors open. Holly also talked about changes that have a more personal impact, all in the requested twenty minutes or less. Of course, there were a lot of great questions.
Lucky us, Holly has agreed to come back on Oct. 23 to revisit this talk, expand on some topics and take more questions, which we are always good at asking.
This week is Octoberfest, a BH Rotary Club tradition for a few years now. There will be beer tasting, German tasting food, fun games for all. Be the first to win the very British game of “Splat the Rat” (which so far, no one has won). There will be fabulous prizes of course. Wear your finest laderhosen, funny Octoberfest apron or blonde braided wig. How often do you have a chance to eat schnitzel in an Oktoberfest apron? Now is your chance. Bring your family and friends. Show them that even though we believe in “Service Above Self,” we can laugh together and have fun. Karen, Charlotte and Vicki will be decorating the clubhouse this Wednesday starting around 3:30 p.m. Come join them. It is a lot of fun. They are a creative group.
The Big, Gray Rotary Barn has a gorgeous big, white and blue Rotary sign on it now. Thank you everyone who made this happen. It sure adds a touch of class. We'll be open every Saturday from 8:30 to 11 a.m. till sometime in December. Come visit for great deals.
We meet most every Thursday at 6 p.m. at our Clubhouse 66 Montgomery Road, Boothbay Harbor. Join us. You'll be glad you did.
