Boothbay girls, Higgins win silver at XC regional championship
The Seahawks had a strong performance at the southern Maine class C regional cross-country championships Oct 26 in Cumberland. Karen Higgins earned second place out of 84 runners, leading the Boothbay girls team to a silver finish. Overall, three Boothbay runners placed in the top 10.
The Boothbay girls team took second place out of 11 teams with a 22:29 average and 72 points. Wayneflete won with 51 points and a 22:09 average.
Higgins won second place in the individual girls race in 19:26.24 minutes. Other results were Laura Chapman, sixth, 21:27;29; Olivia Rittall, 20th, 23:23.82; Maddie Orchard, 24th, 23:55.99; Maddie Andreasen, 26th, 24:16.19; Sophia Mansfield, 36th, 25:35.65; and Lexi Hughes, 55th, 28:59.18.
The Seahawk boys team placed fifth out of 15 with 144 points and a 20:02-minute average. Dirigo won with 84 points and a 19:21-minute average.
AJ Crocker led the Boothbay boys with an eighth-place finish in 18:38.66 minutes. Other results were Ethan Clark, 23rd, 19:42.66; Cleyton Splaine, 37th, 20:27.93; Lysander Lefevre, 39th, 20:33.35; Ross Gaffney, 49th, 20:51.69; Alex Ross, 53rd, 21:04.34; and Thomas Hennessy, 58th, 21:31.97. Overall, 107 boys competed.
The next, and final, meet of the year is the state championships, scheduled for Nov. 2 in Cumberland.
