Boothbay baseball concludes season with 2 losses to Madison
Boothbay baseball finished the season this week with two loses to Class D rival Madison. June 1, the Seahawks lost 16-5 at Sherman Field. June 2, Boothbay lost 11-1 in Madison. Boothbay concludes its season at 2-12.
Boothbay began the season knowing returning starter Shawn Gamage was out for the season due to a football injury. So Boothbay's only senior was right fielder Sophie White. Boothbay won two games this season which kept the team alive for a playoff spot until the final week. Wins over Hall-Dall and Spruce Mountain kept the team within striking distance, and possible victories over Madison (4-12) may have propelled them into the top eight.
Boothbay held slim leads in both games this week, but Madison rallied in each contest. June 1, Madison took a 3-0 lead before Boothbay scored four times in the fourth. Madison stormed backed in the fifth scoring four of its own. Madison scored seven more in the seventh for a 16-5 victory.
Boothbay scored five runs on six hits. Matt Reed doubled. Casey Phelps, Dylan Chryplewicz, Les White, Aiden Locke and Aiden Jewett all singled. Boothbay left seven men on base.
Madison pitching allowed four earned runs, walked three and struck out 11. For Boothbay, White was the starting pitcher who threw 4.2 innings, allowed five hits, two earned runs, walked five and struck out five. Blake Durgan pitched a third of an inning, allowing one hit, one earned run, walking three and striking out one. Locke pitched 1.1 inning, allowed three earned runs, walked three and struck out two. Chryplewicz pitched two-thirds of an inning, allowed four hits and four earned runs, and walked one.
June 3, Boothbay scored in the top of the first inning, but nothing after that. Boothbay had three hits. White had two singles and Locke also singled.
Phelps pitched 4.1 innings, allowed five hits, three earned runs, walked four and struck out six. Madison pitching allowed no earned runs, and struck out 14.
