A big thank you to Public Works
Dear Editor:
I propose that we each, in our own way, recognize and give a big “thank you” to Joseph S. “Jody” Lewis (our Public Works manager) and his small but capable crew for the exceptional work that they do to make Boothbay Harbor a “special place.”
Jody is out in the community with “hands-on” leadership of the crew, making sure the town's streets, wharves, parks and infrastructure are visitor ready for each of our significant events such as Fishermen's Festival, Windjammer Days, etc.
We are fortunate to have a home grown local leader with such knowledge of unique local conditions, and that is respectful of and responsive to citizens' needs.
They strive to ensure that taxpayers get a big band for their buck by keeping their crew small and multi-skilled, doing work right the first time, getting the most competitive bids for paving, and doing such things as rebuilding the harbor master's boat during the winter to save town money.
I have found Jody to always represent the town's best interest, yet be timely, respectful and helpful I responding to citizens' requests. While sometimes not agreeing initially with his opinion, in the end, I have found his direction based on local experience to be more right than my original thoughts.
It is always impressive to see our Public Works leader doing everything from running an excavator, delivering materials to his crew, directing contractors, or out in inclement weather responding to emergencies created by storms.
Thank you, Joseph Lewis and crew, for a “job being well done.”
