Beautiful day for a vintage sports car rally
May 22 was a beautiful day for a vintage sports car rally.
With a dozen or so pre-1974 and exotic rides, the Boothbay Railway Village played host to these extraordinary cars and their drivers, friends and general gear-heads during the 22nd annual New England 1000 Boothbay stop at 586 Wiscasset Road.
The cars started off at the Portland Motor Club on May 18, drove on to Paris Hill on May 19, Bar Harbor on May 20, Owls Head on May 21, all before arriving in Boothbay on Thursday, before a final stop in Freeport.
Organizers Rich Taylor and Wayne Brooks timed the cars as they drove around the track.
Taylor said vintage cars were a passion of his. “We’ve been doing (the rally) for 22 years,” he said.
The rally raises money, through guest admissions and sponsors, for various charities and nonprofits, including the Lyme Disease Foundation, Maine State Police Scholarship Fund, Pemaquid Lighthouse Park and Owls Head Transportation Museum.
Last year’s rallies raised over $150,000.
