Bayville Buzz
The weekend weather wasn’t perfect, but it was better than expected and sister Karen and I had fun out on the water. Her son, Brian, who is an engineer and works on power plants in various locations, came home from El Salvador for a surprise visit as the job there was shut down for a couple of weeks. Great to see him before he heads back! Brian is impressed by how modern the geothermal plants are in El Salvador. Prior to this project, he was at a coal fired plant in West Virginia. Enough said.
Have you noticed how some empty moorings have been claimed by cormorants as their exercise balls? They seem to be in some type of class, working on their balance and poses, and hike moving their feet and spreading their wings. I always thought that move was just to dry them, but I have since learned that it also helps their stability. I’m guessing class difficulty is based upon ball size, wave height and frequency.
If you are out on the water, look before you leap, as once again, Linekin Bay appears to be a breeding ground for lions mane jellyfish - aka, the stinging kind. There were many last year too, but I don’t recall them being so colorful - lots of oranges, reds and purples.
We counted 13 seals chilling on Seal Rock and one in the water, so that’s at least 14 shark baits swimming about. Unfortunately, seals don’t eat the stinging jellyfish, just leatherback turtles and ocean sunfish. The ocean sunfish (Mola mola) is a weird - and cool - creature. It would be nice to have one visit in the bay, though sightings of their dorsal fin would cause some panic.
In case you are in need of some yard work and some laughs, you are in luck as brothers Phil and Al have gotten into the landscape business. When hearing the news, Al’s son, Mike, dubbed their enterprise Dumb and Dumber. Phil claimed the Dumb moniker, but some us might plead the 5th if asked what we thought. Their catchy slogan; “We may be slow, but we’re expensive,” somehow has not generated the business calls they were expecting. Bayville is very fortunate for all the Robertses and all they do!
Speaking of Phil, he has a beautiful new (to him) boat, but that’s about all I can tell you as I have been denied boarding on numerous occasions. Perhaps, my earlier statement will finally get me an invite?
Ginger and her daughter Laura were spotted making Bayville even more beautiful by adding perennials to the Friendship Garden. Thank you!
Have a great week and send any news to thejeffallison@gmail.com
