‘America 250: What Is the ‘Pursuit of Happiness’ Anyway?’ presented by Coastal Senior College
In the 250 years since the signing of the Declaration of Independence, we Americans have struggled with defining the ‘Pursuit of Happiness’. On Wednesdays between Sept. 16 and Oct. 14, Coastal Senior College students will meet from 9:30 to 11 a.m. at the Midcoast Unitarian Universalist Fellowship (MUUF) Community Hub in Damariscotta to wrestle with definitions of happiness.
Instructor Chrys Hahn has gathered readings from a variety of vantage points, ancient wisdom, the Founders, wellness, politics, and cognitive science – all of which attempt to define happiness. Class meetings will be active, Socratic, discussions among all participants, distilling meaning from the readings, our own experience and group ideas.
Hahn has led classes in the Socratic learning style in high school, college and Senior College settings. She also writes poetry and loves to garden and travel.
Coastal Senior College offers opportunities for life-long learning to students who are 50 years old and better.
Registration for Coastal Senior College 2026 Fall Term classes opened on Aug. 11. Classes begin during the week of Sept. 15. Go to coastalseniorcollege.org to learn more about Fall Term classes, membership and registration.
