All Saints by-the-Sea begins services June 21
The Church of All Saints by-the-Sea is looking forward to welcoming worshipers and seekers of all faiths to our 120th summer worship season beginning on Sunday, June 21. This historic chapel was consecrated in July 1906 and has occupied a sacred space on Southport Island and served as a spiritual home for many in our community for generations. The Episcopal service of Holy Communion will be celebrated at 8 and 10 a.m. each Sunday through Sept. 13. People of all faiths are welcome to attend.
All Saints continues its tradition of welcoming visiting clergy from across the country to preside each week sharing a wealth of wisdom and diversity. The season begins with a first-time visiting priest from Trinity Church in Boston, The Rev. Brandon Ashcraft. Throughout the season other engaging clergy will join us including The Rev. Canon George Maxwell from Atlanta, Georgia, The Rev. Cristina Paglinauan of Baltimore, Maryland, The Rev. Martin Smith of Washington, D.C., The Rt. Rev. Mark Beckwith of Jaffrey, New Hampshire, and The Rev. Canon Katie Pearson from Denver, Colorado. The season will conclude with Searsmont, Maine resident, The Rev. Victoria Sirota.
Additional information about the clergy, directions to the church, and other chapel news may be found on the church’s website, https://allsaintssouthport.org. As in past summers, the visiting clergy will lead a discussion of the week’s scriptures on the porch on Tuesday mornings from 9 to 10 beginning on June 23.
The music program at All Saints will continue its excellence with Mr. Henry Lowe as our organist for the majority of the summer. Mr. Lowe has performed worldwide as a recitalist and accompanist and is retired from Church of the Redeemer in Baltimore. He is a summer resident of Walpole, Maine.
For those worshipers who are unable to attend in person, recordings of the services will be available online the week after the service.
All Saints by-the-Sea is located on Southport Island about two miles south on Route 238. All Saints Road is on the left marked by an Episcopal Church sign. Parking is available along Route 238 with a limited number of handicapped spaces at the Chapel parking lot on All Saints Road. A golf cart will ferry persons from the handicapped spaces to the church steps. The handicap accessibility ramp to the chapel is also available. On Sundays, the chapel’s dock is reserved for parishioners and guests arriving to services by boat. The historic chapel strives to be “A Place of Prayer for all People” and will continue to be open during the week for private prayer and contemplation.
