Above the clouds

On such a cold and possibly stormy Dec. 17, let’s take a moment this Wright Brothers Day, according to nationaldaycalendar.com, to daydream of warmer weather and a great place to be then, Wiscasset Municipal Airport.

Have you ever been there? Why? Or, why have you not? Do you like the town’s owning of an airport, and is there more you would like to see, for educational, economic, or other use?

Morse High School’s graduation there this year shows the airport can, with partners, work as an outdoor venue for non-aeronautic events. Closing the runway for hours at its busier time of year makes that prospect less palatable, but it is a thought. Orville and Wilbur Wright thought once, and wound up inventing the “first mechanically propelled aeroplane,” again according to nationaldaycalendar.com

That is a nifty site if you want to learn a little about a lot of things; or if you are just looking for ideas to write an editorial that is not about how 2020 is almost over, at last. Come spring, it might even be a good time for your first drive out to the airport, or your first one in a while.

Week’s positive parting thought: Bye, bye, overly short days. After winter solstice next Monday, Dec. 21, the length of day starts going in the right direction.
