18 teams pass baton

Fri, 06/29/2018 - 10:30am

We actually had 18 teams participate! We don’t know if that was a record but it certainly was the biggest turnout I’ve seen. While we didn’t get hometowns from every team (we’ll do that next year), we know we had several local teams plus folks from all over Maine, Florida, Maryland and Rhode Island.

The winning team was the Boothbay Region High School cross country team featuring Aaron Densmore, Will Perkins, Kelly Clarkson and Nick Scott. Their blistering pace of 3:43.66 beat the second place team, The Salty Dogs, by 40 seconds. The Salty Dogs included Julia Park, Garett Genre, Wally Dawydink and Erica Alvarado. The third place team was The Cods Must Be Crazy - Amy Denton, Jackson Smith, Riley Toner and Kara Kaiaking - and they missed second place by a mere 17 seconds.

Since the Boothbay cross country team also had the best time of any local high school entered in the race, they took home both the $100 first place prize and the $100 best local high school team prize of $100!

The Salty Dogs won the $75 second place prize and The Cods Must Be Crazy raked in $50 for their efforts.

The judges’ choice prize of $25 went to the Codfish Cuties of Bridgdon for their combination of cute team name and oldest average age (though I was told my knee caps would be broken if I divulged that number).

As always, a good time was had by spectators and racers alike, though the expressions on the faces of many of the runners might’ve suggested that assessment is overly optimistic ...
