Celebrate fall in Maine at the 2nd Annual Boothbay Harbor Fest

A variety of festivities will take place throughout the weekend Sept. 27-29 in Boothbay Harbor, offering fun for all ages, showcasing local businesses and celebrating the arrival of the fall season on the Boothbay peninsula.

LogoMarketing Cents 4u, in partnership with participating area businesses, is hosting the second annual Boothbay Harbor Fest Friday, Sept. 27 through Sunday, Sept. 29. All events are rain or shine.

The weekend kicks off Friday afternoon with a Harbor Crawl from 4 to 7 p.m. in downtown Boothbay Harbor. 92 Moose Radio will broadcast live as “crawlers” follow a map to shops, restaurants and inns all over town, where they can eat, drink, shop and otherwise enjoy the season. The Harbor Crawl is free and all ages are welcome.

Area businesses will also be participating in a Harbor Fest Fall Display Contest and visitors will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite display.

Festivities continue Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Waterfront Whale Park on Commercial Street in downtown Boothbay Harbor. Admission is free and featured events include an Eco-Art Show, a treasure hunt with a grand prize valued at $250, a Gimbel's Country Store Birthday Bash for the kiddos, live music presented by Portland's Dispatch Magazine, a Y Arts performance and marine related activities by event beneficiary, Boothbay Sea and Science Center.

Boothbay Sea and Science Center is a nonprofit organization launched in 2013 with the mission of inspiring individuals to strengthen themselves and their community through the enjoyment of the sea.

Harbor Fest moves to Boothbay Harbor Shipyard Saturday from 4 to 7 p.m., for the return of the Dory Chowder & Chili Challenge. Guests will enjoy the savory offerings of 30 local chefs and vote for their favorite. The event will also feature tastings by local brew masters at Boothbay Craft Brewery and Barefoot wines, presented by Pine State Beverage. The Peterson Project of New Gloucester is returning this year with bluegrass music that had the entire Harbor Fest crowd dancing on the waterfront at sunset last year.Music

This portion of the Harbor Fest event is 21+ and ID's will be required to get in. Tickets are $15 per person and include chowder and chili tasting, complimentary beer and wine tasting, and music and dancing. The event beneficiary, Boothbay Sea and Science Center, will have desserts for sale and Darling's Ice Cream Truck for a Cause will be onsite as well, to raise funds for BSSC. New this year is the Harbor Fest After Hours Party, presented by Portland's Dispatch magazine. Guests are invited to join the magazine crew at the Watershed Tavern in Boothbay, as they debut their new monthly event in the state of Maine, Classic Album Sundays. The event is from 8 to 10 p.m. and admission is free. Light food and beverages will be available for purchase.

On Sunday morning join the Dyer Neck Gang in the innaugural Harbor Fest 5k, as they run to raise $10,000 for the Patrick Dempsey Challenge of the Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope and Healing. The run begins at 10 a.m. at Boothbay Craft Brewery and continues along Route 27, onto scenic Adams Pond Road and looping back to the brewery. Registration information can be found here. A celebratory party will immediately follow the run, with bocce, barbecue, beer and a band at Watershed Tavern. The barbecue begins at 11:30 a.m. and tickets are $15 per person; all are welcome.

The Harbor Crawl kicked off the second annual Harbor Fest the night of September 27.

The Rocktide Trolley was packed with "crawlers" as it weaved through downtown Boothbay Harbor.

Friday, Sept. 27

The second night of the 2013 Boothbay Harbor Fest, Saturday, Sept. 28, signals the Return of the Dory Chowder & Chili Challenge at Boothbay Harbor Shipyard from 4 to 7 p.m. Patrons will enjoy the savory flavors of bring offered by — at last count — 16 contestants, and vote for their favorites. The event will also feature tastings by local Brew masters at Boothbay Craft Brewery and Barefoot wines, presented by Pine State Beverage. Music will be provided by the Peterson Project of New Gloucester, playing bluegrass music to get your on your feet, dancing...

Two first place winners for both chili and chowder will be named, with a winning chili and a winning chowder selected by the people's choice and the same by a blind panel of judges, consisting of directors of the challenge’s beneficiary, Boothbay Sea and Science Center.
