Interact Club update

Sun, 01/14/2024 - 12:00pm

This week, the Boothbay Region High School Interact Club met for the first time this year! We welcomed two new members brought by Catherine Clifford: Keegan Murray and Will Clifford.

Three representatives from First National Bank came to speak to the club: Brenda Blackman, Adam Climo and Alyssa Allen. They discussed the First's mission of helping the community similar to Rotary and Interact’s mission of “service above self.” They also presented a $1,000 matching check for Interact’s Lewiston Strong project. Thank you, First National!

We discussed our next service project and settled on a Valentine’s Day-themed middle school dance. The dance is tentatively scheduled to be at the YMCA on Saturday, Feb. 3. We discussed the Kiva loan program. Interested members are encouraged to follow up with Ms. Merrill about this sustainable way to help people around the world.

Finally, the club Vice President Suzie Edwards presented an opportunity to Interact sophomores: the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) Camp. RYLA is a leadership program that takes place over the summer. Campers partake in various activities, presentations, and workshops throughout the course of a 6-day camp. Suzie has been a counselor since she attended RYLA as a camper and encouraged the sophomores to sign-up.
