Boothbay Harbor Fest is scheduled for August 29-September 7 and festivities will take place in a variety of locations throughout the region. The 2014 lineup consists of 10 days, 12 major events, 35 live music acts and something for every type of fun seeker: athletes, music geeks, foodies, artsy folks, fashionistas, treasure hunters and sea lovers. The all-new festival format was designed with every member of our community in mind.

We are currently seeking individuals for the following fun positions:

5k & Half Marathon: A Scenic Race for a Local Cause: Sunday, Aug. 31, 9 a.m., Boothbay Craft Brewery; Seeking sponsors, volunteers and registrants. Event proceeds will benefit the Boothbay Region Community Trails Partnership. The BRCTP, in conjunction with several other local nonprofits, have worked hard to secure a matching grant through the government to extend the sidewalk from the harbor all the way to Clifford Park in Boothbay. Our community must raise the matching funds to receive the grant and complete the project. All who participate in this race will be helping to make that dream come true for our community. For more information, contact Race Director Meagan Hamblett at mhamblett@brymca.org or 207-633-2855.

Scenic Yard Sale Tour: September 6-7, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., various locations. Seeking yard sale participants. Registration fee $10 for a listing on the map (printed and online). All residents and businesses on the Boothbay peninsula are invited to participate. Registration information at www.boothbayharborfest.com

Fishin’ For Fashion Show: Saturday, Sept. 6, 2 to 4 p.m., Rocktide Inn. Seeking sponsors, volunteers, merchants and designers. A Boothbay Harbor original, the First Annual Fishin’ For Fashion Show hasn’t even hit the runway and it’s already turning heads (have you strolled by 31 Commercial Street lately?) This show will benefit local students pursuing fashion and marine related educations and has excellent potential to bring a lot of attention to our region.

Miscellaneous items: Deadline for entry in Harbor Crawl, Restaurant Week and Fun On The Water is August 10. For more information about the festival visit www.boothbayharborfest.com.

For more information about participating in any of the above events, call Lori at 207-671-7676.

Festival impact

Do events and festivals make a positive economic impact on our region? Do they bring first time visitors to our region?

Last week a couple from Winthrop visited the region for a day trip. They picked up the Boothbay Register Dining Guide, saw the Harbor Fest Restaurant Week ad, and called for more details. Their next call was to Tugboat Inn. They booked a 7-night stay specifically to take in Restaurant Week. It will be their first time staying in our region for longer than an afternoon.

A Delaware couple seeking a scenic half marathon to tie into their week vacation had decided on Nova Scotia when they found the Harbor Fest Half Marathon in a Google search. They inquired via the festival website and then proceeded to register for the race and book a cottage in the area for 7 nights. They have only been to Maine two times in their lives and have never before visited our region.
