Multiple fielding errors and careless base-running contributed to the Seahawks’ 5-1 loss to Mountain Valley High School, in Boothbay Region High School’s season finale on Thursday, June 1.

Falcon pitcher Hunter Ames pitched five strong innings, striking out nine Seahawk batters. He was relieved in the sixth inning by John Ames who struck out three. The Falcons scored in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings.

Cameron Crocker pitched a full game for the Seahawks and scored the team’s only run on a passed ball in the seventh inning.

In spite of the team’s 2-12 season, coach Josh Garneau said he saw solid improvement toward the season’s end and over previous years. “We are hitting well,” he said. Garneau said he will miss his hard-working senior players who were awarded flowers in a traditional ceremony before the game. Saluted were seniors Carter Babcock, Zach Blackman, Sam Betts, Colin Cabrera, Noah Sherburne, Grant Giles, Mike Ripley and Jacob Bishopp.

“We will miss them,” said Garneau.

He said two of his best players, Cameron and Hunter Crocker, will be returning along with new talent coming up from the middle school team. “We have young guys who want to play,” said Garneau.
