Seahawks defeat Telstar and Monmouth

The Boothbay Region High School varsity boys basketball team continued to roll along with two more victories as they improved their record to 10-1 and have again inched their way closer to the top of the Heal point standings.
As of January 16, the Seahawks trail top-seeded Dirigo by a slight margin with the highly anticipated match-up between the two still over a week away.
On Tuesday, Jan. 15 at Monmouth Academy, the Seahawks used the perimeter game to loosen up another zone defense early in the game. A pair of 3-pointers helped them open up a 12-7 lead on their way to a 59-46 victory.
The Boothbay offense was very patient with its first possession of the night as they worked around the zone for 50 seconds before John Hepburn scored from the lane. After the host Mustangs tied the score for the last time of the evening, Linc Simmons scored on an inbounds play before Anthony DiMauro drained a three-pointer.
After a 3-pointer by the Mustangs' Brandon Goff, Simmons put back a miss, Kameron Markee hit a 3-pointer, and DiMauro cleaned up the offensive glass, as the Seahawks were out to a 14-7 lead. Joseph DiMauro connected from the left corner late in the quarter as Boothbay maintained the 7-point spread.
Anthony DiMauro went coast-to-coast following a jumper by John Hepburn to double up on Monmouth, but the Seahawk offense went silent, not scoring again in the frame until Hepburn scored with under a minute to play in the half. Monmouth was scrapping its way back into the game via the free throw line and actually pulled to within two points on a 3-pointer by Billy Cummings. The Seahawk lead was three at the break.
Some words of wisdom from head coach I.J. Pinkham at the intermission must have hit home as Boothbay hit the gas, going on a 14-2 run in the middle of the period to open up a 13-point lead. Evan Hepburn opened the period with a 3-pointer and Anthony DiMauro scored from the lane before Linc Simmons and John Hepburn put back misses and DiMauro drove for two more hoops. A lone Mustang hoop was followed by a three-pointer from Andrew Hallinan and a three-point play by DiMauro as the lead grew to 17. DiMauro would finish the night leading the Seahawks with 21 points while John Hepburn added 13 and Linc Simmons 10.
On Friday, Jan. 11, the Seahawks again used a big third period to stretch out the lead during a 68-45 victory over the Telstar Rebels. Leading by eight at the break and seeing the margin cut to six, the Seahawks responded with a quick 6-0 run as John Hepburn scored inside, Andrew Hallinan converted a steal, and DiMauro hit two from the line.
Later in the quarter and leading now by 10, the Seahawks' defensive pressure led to points in the transition game as they put together a 10-0 run to open up a 20-point cushion. Anthony DiMauro and John Hepburn each scored 16 in the win with DiMauro grabbing eight rebounds and handing out five assists.
The Seahawks entertain Oak Hill on Thursday, Jan. 17, before traveling to Mt. Abram Saturday.
