Berger leads fleet in One Design races
Pat Berger was the presumptive winner of several legs of One Design races sponsored by the Boothbay Harbor Yacht Club and the Boothbay One Design Association as part of Windjammer Days on Sunday June 26. Berger’s was one of nine boats that competed over the course.
According to Berger (Boothbay Register, June 6) the Boothbay Harbor One Design is a 21-foot day sailor originally designed by Geerd Hendel in 1938. First made of wood and later molded in fiberglass there were 57 constructed and recently perfected by builder David Nutt of Edgecomb.
“She always walks away with a trophy,” said friend Nancy Adams of Berger while observing the race on Sunday from the picnic area on the campus of the Dept. of Marine Resources on McKnown Point in Boothbay Harbor.
From observers it appeared that boats with white, blue and Berger’s red hull were the fastest in the water.
