Barrett’s Park in Boothbay Harbor was teeming with people and dogs on June 21. It was a perfect early summer day. The sky was blue, the sun was shining and the water was warm — at least from a Mainer’s point of view.

At least half the people enjoying the cool breeze had dogs with them, and others were there supervising while their kids swam in the relatively warm ocean water. People were relaxing at picnic tables on the lawn and in beach chairs on the small beach.
