A Boothbay woman was arrested by the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office on May 24 for allegedly unlawfully entering houses when the residents were away and stealing items. Eva Mae Todd, 48, of Boothbay has been charged with Burglary and Theft, according to the sheriff’s office.
The charges stem from an investigation by Lincoln County deputies and detectives into a reported burglary on Cape Newagen Road on Southport Island. A resident found the house they had been staying in had been entered and several articles of clothing were missing. In speaking with neighbors, the resident was told of a suspicious woman who had been seen in the area.
While checking the area, the resident observed a woman, later identified as Todd, with two bags of clothes and wearing some of the stolen clothing, according to the sheriff’s office. When confronted, Todd allegedly got into her car, a green 1999 Saab convertible, which was parked nearby, and attempted to leave. However, while Todd was blocked in by another vehicle, she allegedly drove over rocks and across a lawn to flee the area.
Todd was later stopped by Boothbay Harbor Police and arrested by Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office Detective Scott Hayden on the Burglary and Theft charges. Her car was towed and impounded. She was taken to Two Bridges Regional Jail in Wiscasset and later released on bail.
(Updated) Until recently, Todd was employed by the Boothbay Harbor Region Chamber of Commerce as a visitor and member coordinator. She had been let go from her job a couple of weeks before this incident and arrest, according to Rick Prose, executive director of the BHR C. of C.
According to the sheriff’s office, a search warrant was obtained for Todd’s vehicle and a purse was discovered that appeared to belong to a woman from Vassalboro. Further inquiry revealed the purse had been stolen in Vassalboro in April and the theft was being investigated by the Maine State Police.
The investigation continues. Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Scott Hayden at 882-7332.
