The public is invited to attend the opening reception for the River Arts’ “Flower Show” from 5-7 pm on Friday, April 22. Over 115 works are available for viewing in an exhibition that runs through May 19.

Artists from Old Town to Biddeford entered this exhibition. Flowers are portrayed in a wide variety of styles and media, including: watercolor, gouache, oil, pastel as well as glass, copper, clay, and egg shells.

Artists of the Boothbay, Wiscasset and Damariscotta areas include: Peter Felsenthal of Trevett; Pamela Logan, Jorge Pena, Cindy Spencer and Virginia Forrest of Wiscasset; Carolyn Gabbe and Elizabeth Palmer of Nobleboro; Helen Warren of Newcastle; and Susan Atwater, Glenda Drum, Sarah Fisher, Jack Gilmore, Jean Harris, Kathleen Horst Jan Kilburn, Keith Plummer, Judy Nixon and Polly Steadman of Damariscotta.

The jurors for the show, Dennis and Marty Gleason, owners of the Gleason Fine Art Gallery in Boothbay Harbor, selected work submitted by 100 Maine artists. The couple opened their first gallery in what they describe as a tiny space in a Boothbay Harbor side street in 1985.

The gallery is currently located in a restored 19th-century farmhouse at 31 Townsend Avenue in the center of Boothbay Harbor. In addition to selling 19th through 20th century art, Gleason Fine Art offers collection consulting, art appraisals, and restoration services.
