Lady Seahawks open season against Carrabec
The Lady Seahawks opened the regular season with a 46-37 win at Carrabec High School, December 8.
The Seahawks maintained the lead for the majority of the first half, but the Cobras crept back, closing the gap to within five points at the end of the third quarter.
In the final quarter Boothbay was able to control the tempo and make crucial stops down the stretch. With less than four minutes of regulation play, Sarah Caron, Hannah Morley and Abby McLellan all chipped in making free throws, and secured the win for Boothbay.
McLellan led Boothbay in scoring with 15 points. Alex Clarke scored 14 points, shot 8 for 12 and controlled the boards with nine rebounds.
Boothbay coach Tanner Grover said, “The kids played hard defensively. Offensively, we struggled at times, but overall we gave a great effort.”
McLellan made the difference, Grover said. “She controlled the game from end to end, making great plays in transition, and really led the charge for us.”
Contributing to the Seahawks defense was McLellan with five steals, and Caron with four steals and two blocks. Boothbay stole the ball 15 times and shot 15 for 20 from the foul line.
Emma Pluntke, a 6' sophomore, was the top scorer for Carrabec, finishing with 14 points.
Grover said Carrabec was a good matchup for Boothbay. “They’re young, they have a really good post player, and it’s a tough place to play at,” he said. “As far as game one goes, it’s a really good win for us.”
The Lady Seahawks will host the first home game against Monmouth Academy, Tuesday, Dec. 11, at 7:30 p.m.
