All are invited
On Sunday, Oct. 5 from 2 to 4 p.m., the trustees of the Hendricks Hill Museum welcome you all to their annual Closing Party at the Museum, 419 Hendricks Hill Road in Southport.
The press of the summer is past and this is a time to enjoy cider and doughnuts and pleasant company. For those of you who have driven right by the "Museum Open" sign over the years, this is a grand time to do what you have always meant to do some day. Well, “Some Day” is Oct. 5.
The museum has a wide collection of items related to life as it was on Southport from Native American artifacts collected near Newagen to service flags displayed during World War II.
There is a display of pictures of the many steamboats that served the coast in the 1800s and early 1900s.
Come and see how a chip log works and why speed is measured in “knots” to this day, how nets were knitted by hand, and what the old Southport Yacht Club class sailboats really looked like.
There is a good collection of the tools and furniture made by Cecil Pierce, a founding trustee. We have been asked if we have an example of the fly-rods for which he had a world-wide reputation. We don’t, and would be most interested to find one.
You can’t possibly see it all in two hours, but do give it a try!
If you are an old friend, you are also most welcome. The company is interesting and admission is free.
