Boothbay Harbor town gateway enters design phase
Now that the town has decided what to do with the old tennis court area off Route 27 next to Boothbay Region High School, the next step is creating the plans. Town Manager Tom Woodin is in discussion about the creation of the town “gateway” with Public Works Director Jody Lewis, School Maintenance Supervisor Dave Benner, and civil engineer for the Knickerbocker group, Danielle Betts.
Betts created the former plans for the area, which included a larger parking area and drop-off loop. After residents’ feedback, the selectmen have decided to instead create an area that includes basketball courts, green space and a parking area that will include a trolley stop and possibly including the drop-off loop as well.
The parking lot will not be expanded, though there is a possibility of additional parking along Emery Lane.
According to Woodin, Betts has agreed to draw up a few different plans for the selectmen to look over at their next meeting, which is being held Tuesday, May 27.
“It is very likely we will have the plans within a week to 10 days,” Woodin said. “So there should be no problem having it at the next meeting.”
Selectman Russ Hoffman expressed an eagerness to get the project moving forward, which was echoed by the other members of the board.
Interested members of the public are encouraged to attend the meeting and offer feedback.
