Coastal Senior College winter 2014 classes: There’s still room
The winter 2014 Coastal Senior College menu of courses is ready for you. Consider taking the Junior League Luncheon class with popular Damariscotta chef David Atwater. Learn how to make entrée salads with exotic dressings, or main entrées like chicken stuffed with spinach, pine nuts and sun-dried tomatoes. Try your hands at desserts like Crême Brulée or tiramisu. “Luncheon at the Junior League,” three Thursdays, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., January 23 and 30 and February 6, at the Atwater home, 28 Midden Way, Damariscotta. A $20 materials fee is required.
“When the Economy Hits the Fan, What’s a Citizen to Do?” Paul Kando is continuing his multi-faceted course on our current economy, how to make it make more sense, and work more positively for us, rather than against us. Learn how to form energy collectives and how to discuss the larger issues with civility and reason, aiming toward a better America. Six Fridays, from 10 a.m. to noon, from January 24 to February 28, in the Carpenter Room at Skidompha Library in Damariscotta.
Beth Vetter, CSC’s Technology Wonk, and Nathan Randall, who can conjure up anything from Stravinsky ballets to Southeast Asian banquets, can introduce the timid, the skeptical, and the “I’ve never done this, but I’d rather like to try” to the computer. Topics will include all aspects of email, Microsoft Word, browsing the Internet, and much more. However, this class is limited to PC users only, so bring your PC laptops, with a Windows 7 Operating System. “Making Friends with your Computer,” four Wednesdays, from 10 a.m. to noon, from February 5 through 26 at Hodgdon Green in Damariscotta.
What to do on your Tuesday afternoons? Many people like to play bridge. This popular card game can be as cut-throat or as companionable as you like, but you may never have played it, or not since your college days when you should have been cramming for exams. B.J. Frederick will lead you by the hand in “From Whist to Bridge,” five Tuesdays, 1 to 3:30 p.m., from January 21 through February 18, at Schooner Cove in Damariscotta.
To register for these for any of the other winter CSC classes, call 1-800-286-1594. Classes are $30 and CSC membership for the year is $25.
