New thrift shop, Southport Island Treasures, opens May 19
Southport Island Treasures (S.I.T.), a new thrift and resale shop located on Southport Island, will open its doors to the public on Monday, May 19 at 10 a.m. The shop will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Saturday.
S.I.T. offers a little something for everyone—antiques, home goods, collectibles, and a small selection of clothing. More than just a store, it's a place to explore, connect, and maybe find that special item you didn’t even know you were looking for. As the slogan says, “Come to S.I.T. and stay awhile!”
The shop is the vision and labor of love of Angel Ames, a Southport Island native whose work has long reflected her passion for the community. Proceeds from the store will support the Southport Quilters Group, which creates and donates quilts to schools, veterans, hospitals, and families in need -- both locally and globally. Funds will help cover quilting materials, sewing machine maintenance, and other essential costs.
Looking ahead, Angel also plans to collaborate with Southport Central School to launch a reading incentive program for students, offering gift certificates and prizes to encourage a love of books. More details will be announced soon.
Reflecting on the journey so far, Angel shares: “I am so thankful to friends and family who have donated such amazing items and helped me get this shop up and running.”
Southport Island Treasures is located at 608 Hendricks Hill Road.
