Welcome to the “new” Southport General Store! We have been busily working to bring you a freshened-up version of our beloved store. We made some interior modifications, expanded the menu, and added other fresh details you will discover. We hope you love our new signs! The logo was designed by hand to reflect the heritage of the store and the island, using inspiration from historic store photos and Southport cartography. The signs themselves were hand-painted using traditional sign-making methods.

The Kaler family opened Kaler's Restaurant in 1998. Dan and Mary ran the restaurant for 13 years with help from their son, Sam. Dan passed in 2010. He is sorely missed by his family and many of Kaler's returning customers.

Although Sam assumed ownership of the business, you'll find not much has changed. Mary is still the familiar face greeting customers at the door, and Sam is still in the kitchen making sure all of the food is cooked to perfection.

It serves residents of all ages by hosting a wide range and variety of performances, concerts, theater, national and international conferences, and other events. Annually, the Opera House hosts more than 28,000 patrons. With 130 years of service to the community, we are invested in the cultural vibrancy of our community and see the Opera House as a mainspring in the advancement of a vibrant downtown area.

Our mission is to produce, sponsor and host events that supplement and expand the cultural, social and economic life of the community.  For us, this also includes more than 200 town-sponsored meetings, events and community gatherings per year.
