Haunted History Tours joins effort to bring PBS series travel series to region
Red Cloak Haunted History Tours is joining the community effort to bring a top-rated travel show to cover the Boothbay Region.
Getting Away Together, produced by the Public Broadcasting System (PBS), is nationally televised and is available internationally. According to the Getting Away Together website, www.gettingawaytogether.com, the show is, “A new TV series highlighting the rapidly growing trend of sharing a vacation with friends and family … Each episode features a new group of travelers as they unwind with meaningful travel experiences in fun locales.”
Community members, and organizations including the Boothbay Harbor Region Chamber of Commerce, have undertaken an effort to raise $60,000 needed to fund the show’s production in the area. (As a PBS program the show doesn’t have paid advertisements to cover expenses.)
Red Cloak Haunted History Tours is offering two tours in Boothbay Harbor from which 100 percent of the proceeds will go to benefit this fundraising effort. The tours, which began in Boothbay Harbor six years ago, are lantern-lit evening walks through the town. The mysterious Lady in the Red Cloak reveals reveal the history and mystery of locations visited. The walks last about 90 minutes and are routed to minimize physical exertion.
“This television show is a great opportunity for the Boothbay region, and I’m hoping with the whole community working together we can be successful in bringing it here,” said Sally Lobkowicz, the director of Red Cloak Haunted History Tours, which has operated in Boothbay Harbor for six years.
The tours are scheduled for Monday, Sept. 30 and Monday, Oct. 14 starting at 7 p.m. Tours are by reservation and limited to 30 persons or less to maintain safety and quality. Early reservations are suggested. Reservations may be made by calling 207-380-3806 or emailing redcloaktours@gmail.com. The price is $12 for adults and $7 for children under 12 years old.
