From summer to fall
Wow, did the mooring field empty out quickly! Monday last week there were still 35 boats, plus the Junior Program vessels. Yesterday there were only 10. That’s what happens when the calendar changes from summer to fall and we, like well-trained robots, do what we are told.
Weekly competition in bridge, mahjong and tall tales still continue and will until work day when the water is shut off.
October 5 is the first board meeting of the Krow Administration as Lee assumes the mantle of responsibility on October 1. Thanks to soon to be Past Commodore Neil Newton for his enthusiastic leadership this past summer. Neil and Maggie were always on the spot for every event and it was not always easy to find the club on some of those harrowing trips from the island to West Boothbay Harbor.
While we hate to see the dining room close in what is traditionally one of the most beautiful months of the year, this scribe was extremely impressed with the “every last speck” cleanup that Chef George has given his kitchen over the past few days. Every single item including pots and pans, china, silverware and all the rest came out of the kitchen and every last crack and cranny was subjected to deep and thorough cleaning.
We were saddened to hear of the passing of Faith Marsland, widow of longtime member John Marsland. Past Commodore Louise remembers sending a letter of congratulations to John when, as a member of BHYC, he attained the age of 100. The Marslands were active sailors and loyal members.
We now have hosts for two of the winter monthly social events. We need you to step up and volunteer by calling Louise Holmes at 207-882-5525 to say you will do October, December, January, February or March.
Safety boat operators for the High School Sailing program are needed for October 3 and 14. If you can do it, please call me or send me an email. Thanks to all who have helped Sally run this fabulous program.
