Unleash your creativity
Central Lincoln County Adult Education is offering two very different yet creative courses that allow participants to take home a completed product.
Intermediate Gouache Painting with instructor Julie Babb is for those with some experience in the gouache medium who would like to continue their exploration. The class will be based on solid principles of representational painting and drawing and will include color mixing, developing neutrals and some brush techniques using animals and birds as subjects and models.
Techniques of fur and feather painting, plus understanding motion and how gesture affects the actual paint application will be studied. The course will include some very basic anatomy as well. Producing a pet portrait could be your end result for this class. Beginners are welcome and will find it easy to make themselves at home in this class.
The course begins Tuesday, Oct. 1 from 7 to 9 p.m. at Bristol Consolidated School and runs through November 19. Students will receive a materials list upon registration. The cost of the course is $89 for registrations received on or before September 24 and $94 for all other registrations. So register early and save.
If you prefer hand tools to paint brushes, consider registering for Unplugged Woodworking with instructor Kenneth Kortemeier, a local artist and craftsman who builds wooden boats and furniture and has been teaching woodworking for 20 years.
Come learn how to use traditional hand tools in this project-based introductory workshop. Hand tools have been enjoying resurgence in popularity because for the non-production hobbyist woodworker, they offer a less expensive, safer and quieter way to enjoy woodworking. Each class will begin with an explanation and demonstration of relevant skills and tools.
Students will learn to build a simple and useful small bench. The bench is also useful as a step stool, saw horse or coffee table. The foundational skills learned could be used to build a variety of other projects. Students will learn how to use hand saws, chisels, and carving knives. They will also learn about measuring and layout. Basic sharpening will also be covered.
The course begins Saturday, Oct. 5 and runs through October 26, with no class on October 12. There will be an extended class on October 26 to make up for the missed class. The class will be held at The Good Supply in Pemaquid from 9 a.m. to noon (9 a.m. to 3 p.m. October 26 only) and is limited to six students. The cost is $89 for registrations received on or before September 28 and $94 for all other registrations and includes materials and tools.
