Adult Learning Center and GED Test Prep
Listen. Can you hear that? It’s the clock ticking the countdown to the expiration of the current version of the GEDtest. What that means is that those who have taken the 2002 Series GEDtest, but not passed all five parts, have until the end of 2013 to complete the tests. Otherwise they will need to start over again in 2014 with the new GEDtest in order to receive their high school credential.
The time to act is now as the fall session of Adult Learning Center and GEDTest Prep offered through Central Lincoln County Adult Education is set to begin the week of September 16. There will be several sessions offered with daytime and evening hours plus Maine GEDSuper Saturday, Sept. 21. Daytime offerings begin Monday, Sept. 16 from 9 a.m. to noon at the CLC Adult Education office, in Damariscotta. A new daytime option begins Tuesday, Sept. 17 from 9 a.m. to noon at Bristol Consolidated School, in Bristol. Our evening offering, which runs both Tuesdays and Thursdays, begins Tuesday, Sept. 17 from 6 to 9 p.m. at Salt Bay School, in Damariscotta. The first week of classes is registration and orientation week, which includes Thursday, Sept. 19.
Maine GEDSuper Saturday is September 21 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the CLC Adult Education office, in Damariscotta. Join us for this statewide event. Discover how to complete a GED, get started with an intake, do two short lessons on math and essay writing, and take one or more GEDpretests if ready. It is a jump start toward completing your GED. All classes are free and there is no charge for the actual testing either.
The GED credential offers adults a powerful second chance at attending college or pursuing a career. The Tests of General Educational Development (GED Tests) are designed to measure the skills and knowledge equivalent to a high school course of study. The five subject area tests which comprise the GED test battery are mathematics; language arts reading; language arts writing (including essay); science; and social studies.
The GEDpreparation class is open to individuals 17 years or older who are not attending high school. Individualized instruction is provided as preparation for the 5-part General Educational Development test that leads to a high school equivalency certificate. Testing accommodations are available for individuals with documented learning disabilities.
The Adult Learning Center offers free help for any area adult resident who needs to work on basic math, reading and writing or English language skills. Individualized instruction for all levels and help preparing for the Accuplacer College Placement exam is offered.
Please call the Central Lincoln County Adult Education office at 207-563-2811 for more information or to register for one of these sessions. You may also visit our website: www.clc.maineadulted.org to register for class.
