Not enough time this summer
I recently had the pleasure of meeting new neighbors, Beth Panagos and her daughter Lily, who is a new first grader at Edgecomb Eddy School. Beth and her husband Mario are the new owners of the Damariscotta Romeo's pizzeria, and live in the Sheepscot Village area of Davis Island. Welcome!
Kristen and John Gosselin have opened a daycare center they call Seahorse Play Zone at the former Tammy's Kitchen site on Route 27, shortly before it intersects with Route 1. The Play Zone is licensed for eight children, ages two and a half to five years. Applications are currently being accepted, call them at 882-1290 to register or get more details. Oh, and their daughters Emily and Anna will be new Edgecomb Eddy students, also.
Those who partook of the Twin Villages ArtWalk yesterday, I hope you took in Kim Traina's pastels and photographs at the Pemaquid Watershed Association's office. The works will be up for a while longer, best to call PWA or Kim herself to confirm the end date. The Sheepscot Valley Family Festival is coming up on Sunday, Sept. 8, from 9 am to 3 pm. Events planned include a 5K Race, a Sheepscot River Paddle, a number of traditional children's and family games. At date of writing, the Sheepscot Valley Conservation Association still needed a few volunteers, for setting up and tearing down the site, guiding parking traffic, or coordinating various of the events – two-hour shifts. Photographers are also wanted, the same shift schedule. Call SVCA at 586-5616 or consult their website for more information.
On Wednesday, September 18, Jarryl Larson and I, wearing our Town Committee co-chairmen caps, will launch our first meeting for Edgecomb Democrats, 6 to 8 pm, at the Edgecomb Town Hall. Everyone, bring along your concerns, opinions, talents, and food nibbles. You can contact me at jocam@tidewater.net or 207-633-2978 or Jarryl at cyberjla@earthlink.net or 207-882-5059.
Where are we with the Cochran Quilt, a wedding memory gift from 1887, now housed in the Newcastle Historical Society's Taniscot Fire Station museum? Here is Row 5: 5.1: Mary Clifford, 5.2: Mrs. William Dodge, 5.3: A. (or H?) Greenleaf, 5.4: no name, 5.5: Martha Dodge, 5.6: Mrs. Ruth Clifford, 5.7: M.C. Dodge. I'm still reeling from a delightful visit from both daughters plus grandchildren last weekend, much ambitious cookery, much sifting through family matters, and a grand trip over to Pemaquid Point, a favorite visit for the gang.
Not long enough time to do everything on our list, or see everyone we wanted to see, but the weather was grand! Unlike other visits when we have all ignored rain and wind with endless Scrabble games and reading and/or E-reading. We truly are getting to look like one of those New Yorker cartoons, I'm thinking of the one modeled after Norman Rockwell's immortal Freedom From Want picture, the Family Thanksgiving, where everyone, including Grampa carving the turkey, is on some kind of electronic communication device.
At the crossroads of the 19th and 21st centuries, at 234 River Road, 207-633-2978, and jocam@tidewater.net.
