Come to Coffee and Chat
At a recent meeting of “The Breeze,” cottager Linda Garette became its next editor. Through the years, she has edited a number of newsletters, so she’s experienced in working on such a project.
“The Breeze” is St. Andrews Village’s quarterly publication, written, drawn and photographed by Village residents. It tells about goings-on on this hilltop, and about actions behind the scenes which make the community tick.
Reba Pixley brought visiting friends up from her cottage for Coffee and Chat, an event that happens every Saturday in the Pinkham Dining Room at the Inn. Jim had done all the driving, coming with his wife from Arizona to Erie, Pennsylvania (to pick up his daughter) to Boothbay Harbor.
Any Villager who wants to, arrives for the weekly Coffee and Chat gathering. Conversation ranges from Village gossip to affairs of the country, the world and beyond. (Perseid Showers, anyone?) Sometimes there’s an overflow table-full of people from the Inn and the cottages; now and then, the crowd spills over to another table.
This custom began when an early resident made scones for all to enjoy. Its success continued when that resident no longer lived at the Village.
The pleasant weather has brought residents to walk in the grounds. Some were relieved when Wednesday turned out to be sunny; they were headed for the baseball game between the Portland Sea Dogs and the New Hampshire Fisher Cats. Even better in their eyes: the Sea Dogs won.
Paul has diligently tended the raised boxes outside the dining room. They hold herbs, flowers and vegetables. He gathered beautiful red cherry tomatoes one night and they were eagerly received by residents until they ran out. Cheer up! Many more are on the way.
