We had a beautiful Monday morning to start our last week of sailing. Many new and old faces joined us for our weekly swim tests. We welcome Alexander and Sonia Kim, Claire and Paige Britton, Linnea Whiting, Anneke and Charlotte Pulkkinen, and Camden Swan. We also had a few children take advantage of the warm August waters and take the swim test for next summer. We look forward to having the following children in the Program next year: Ella Freund and Lucy Gauthier-Nelson. 

Last week many of our Optimist sailors traveled to Boothbay Harbor Yacht Club for the Maine State Opti Championship. We had a terrific two days of sailing and thank BHYC for hosting an excellent event. All of our sailors did a great job, and we are proud of their hard work. In the Green Fleet, Max Freund received first place and Ethan Barnard third. Shannon Pyne joined the fleet on the second day and was very competitive. In the Championship Fleet, Victoria Thompson ended in second place, David Wollins third, Andrew Turley fourth, Kelley Phippen fifth, Emma Jacobs ninth, Dance Phippen 11th, Jo Shaw 15th, Kiley Roach 17th, Blake Erhard 19th, and Keiran Lorentzen 20th place. 

Save the date for the Southport Junior Yacht Club Sailing Foundation Banquet! On Friday, Aug. 17, at 6 p.m., all Foundation sailors and their families are welcome to join us for the annual end-of-year banquet. Tickets are $7 per person and must be purchased in advance at SYC just before 9 a.m., just after noon, just before 1 p.m. and just after 4 p.m.
